We decided to pack up the babes and head to southern Utah for spring break for a camping and hiking excursion. We knew that there were going to be tons of people there but we figured we'd just rough it and find a camping spot somewhere. The weather was suppose to be warm and beautiful and we were just super excited to be together and camp again as a family. Plus we took Mason's new truck down - something we've never done before, using his truck for a big trip. It was kind of fun to be all squished in there together.
Our first stop upon arriving was to drive into Arches National Park to see some of the sights. First we went to Double Arch. It was a pretty warm afternoon so the kids were pretty hot on the hike but they loved it once they got to the arch and were able to climb. I was a little nervous about all these hikes with my ankle being only 9 weeks post surgery but it felt just fine (a little weak going downhill) but I was so happy to be able to do pretty much everything the kids were able to do.
After that we decided to go find a campsite and set up camp. We had heard about a couple places that were free for camping. The first one we went to on Willow Springs Road was PACKED with people with absolutely no isolation from anyone. Part of our trip was that we wanted to have a camping experience so we didn't want to be that near others. We had heard about another place called Gemini Bridges that you needed 4-wheel drive to get to the campsites. We had no idea what that meant but quickly discovered that it meant crawling along the side of a mountain for a couple miles extremely high up. It was a crazy nerve-racking drive but beautiful and once we found a campsite that was in complete isolation we knew it was exactly what we had hoped for. It was beautiful and tucked in a canyon with lots of space for the kids to climb and play. We set up camp and had a delicious dutch oven dinner of macaroni and cheese with beans. It was the perfect night camping.
We cooked rolls with honey butter over the fire and the kids had fun playing with their gnomes that Nana had given them from Easter. They took them up on the mountain that had little holes in it and made a whole little world for the gnomes and then took pictures of them in the rooms of their houses (bedroom, art room, closet, etc.). It was adorable.
That night in the tent everyone fell asleep to Mason telling a story. The perfect night.
