Cactus do have thorns...

This past weekend we got invited to go over to one of Mason's middle school team members home where everyone on the team was gathering for dinner. As we got out of the car Mason saw a tiny baby lizard. Now any of you who know anything about Mason knows that he loves anything tiny and cute that he can possibly catch - which is exactly what these baby lizards are. Really they are just darling. Well he goes after it and the people we were visiting have a beautiful desert garden filled with many types of cactus. I'll bet you can see where the story is going here...

So the little guy runs under a cactus that looks similar to the one below - I think it was a prickily pear, but I'm not sure. Me thinking that Mason knows, doesn't say anything as he starts to stick his hand down under the cactus. Now the thing about these types of cactus is that they don't look like they have thorns. But the have millions of teeny tiny thorns sticking out of each bud.

So he doesn't realize that these are there and as I am watching him I realize this and say, "Hun, you do realize that even though you can't see the thorns, they are there..." He pulls out his finger and it, no joke looks like this:

His finger was covered in tiny red thorns. He was so surprised and shocked being 'you can't seem them!' I had to laugh and call him an ignorant Utah boy. He was also surprised at how painful those little buggers are to get out! He's still finding them in his finger. Gotta love these cacti!

Maternity Photo Shoot

I wanted to get maternity photos done with my first little one - just to say I had it done. My friend, Jennifer, whose husband owns Social Grace Studios did them for us and I LOVE how they turned out. I could have posted 30+ pictures, but I didn't want to drive you too nuts. Here are a couple of my favorites. Thank you Jennifer and Justin! They came out exactly how I had hoped.

Chubs

I feel like I have been so blessed during this pregnancy to have the opportunity to see my little guy so often. I got to get another ultrasound last Tuesday due to the fact that I was starting with a new doctor down here. The tech was so nice and she said that being he was posing so nicely we would get to get a lot of pictures of him. She also let me know that he is a chubby little thing. Here is a profile of his face. The thing that looks like brass knuckles about his nose is the umbilical cord. His lips are puckered and I got to see him sucking them in and out.

As she was measuring his stomach she asked me, "Did you know you have a chubby baby?" I suppose my response should have been something like, "Oh, no wonder I'm so gigantic." or "How dare you call my baby chubby..." But I didn't really know what to say to that comment. She then told me that he was in the 90th percentile. Here is the picture of his pot belly. I know it doesn't mean much to you, but I thought for the story's sake I should include it.

My thoughts were: 90th percentile!? That's HUGE! This kid is going to be gigantic if he goes full term. What am I going to do??? But then I had my doctors appt on Thursday and I asked her about his size. And she said, "Only his stomach measured in the 90th percentile. He overall measures in the 67th." Whew. Ok, that's better.

Right now he weighs 6.1 oz. Yes, I know some of you out there never even had a baby reach that size. I've got a healthy pot-bellied baby cookin' inside me. And I can't wait to squish those little cheeks... so I wouldn't mind if he came early one bit!!!

I love this video because of the grimace he makes. If only he knew that's how uncomfortable I felt on the outside too. We have something in common little guy. We are both majorly uncomfortable and grimace a lot - except you are being squeezed and I'm being stretched. YIKES!

The doctor told me that as long as he came after Wednesday (that's when he'll be 36 weeks) we'd be good to take him home. Anyone wanna go jogging with me Thursday morning??

The Krispy Kreme Cheese Burger

My dad sent me this article about this new burger they are starting to sell at fairs and baseball games back east. I was so disturbed by it, it's been on my mind all night! SO SICK!

And get this... This is a direct quote from the article:

The KKC appeared at a Massachusetts fair in 2009 and at this year's Kentucky and Wisconsin state fairs.The Machine Shed, a restaurant with a food concession at the Wisconsin State Fair, told the Milwaukee Journal it expected to sell about 3,500 Krispy Kreme cheeseburgers over the first three days of the fair. About a quarter of its customers were pitching in an extra buck for the side order of chocolate-covered bacon.

Oh wow. I remember when I went to the Utah State Fair when they were starting to sell deep fried PB&J's, deep fried oreos, deep fried twinkies. But chocolate covered bacon!? Even for a pregnant lady who is suppose to have strange cravings that is a bit DISGUSTING!!

Be proud America! I love being the fattest country in the world.

Now that I have been ranting and raving... would any of you try this? Don't worry... I won't call you disgusting if you would. Salty and sweet - right??

34 and 1/2 weeks

I haven't gotten any basketball comments yet, but I'm waiting... :)

How far along? 34 1/2 weeks. That means 8 months and 3 weeks. Almost 9 months!! The way I was calculating it before was wrong.
Total weight gain: 29 pounds - This weight thing is another funny story. See... I'm not very good with math. And I thought that I was pushing 40 pounds and so embarrassed about it. But then I actually sat down with a calculator and realized that I am only pushing 30! Relief! So I am right where I need to be now - all the other posts I was putting the wrong amount. Haha. It's a good thing I only taught 1st grade.... but give me a break! It's hard to see these new numbers on the scale. :)
Stretch marks on the belly? Nope
Sleep: Uncomfortable. Right now we are sleeping on two twin beds pushed together to make a king and it's a good thing because all I do is barrel roll all night and poor Mason wouldn't get an ounce of sleep!
Best moment this month: Just watching my stomach move. It's amazing that he's in there. Plus the birthing class that we are going to has really made it seem so miraculous.
Movement: Still the same wild thing. I think he's going to be a football player just like his daddy and he's practicing on my internal organs.
Food cravings: Not really anything.
Labor Signs: Just the Braxton Hicks still.
Belly Button in or out? Out but I think it's gone back in a little bit.
What I miss: My energy! I'm worthless these days!!!
What I am looking forward to: I get to have ANOTHER ultrasound tomorrow being I started with a new doctor. Plus I'm looking forward to working on the baby's room. I know i say that every time... but not much has progressed. I think we are going to paint it this week though!!
Milestones: And the milestone is that the dresser got halfway put together last night. We will finish it tonight, but that means I can start washing his clothes and putting them away. 5 weeks (or sooner) is going to be here before we know it!!

Arizona Rain Storms

My 2nd favorite thing about Arizona is the monsoons. I LOVE them! A couple weeks ago we had a bunch of awesome rainstorms. One was so intense that it looked like a waterfall coming off the back porch. You can't really tell in these pictures. But whenever we have a good storm, I LOVE it. There is nothing like the warm rain of Arizona!

It was pretty funny because all of the birds that live in the tree above couldn't stay in the tree because the wind was blowing so hard. They all plastered themselves in the corners of the fence and looked up. I kinda scared them away with the first picture, but it was pretty cute.

But my all time most favorite thing about Arizona is it's sunsets. They are SPECTACULAR! Even when there isn't a rainstorm they are amazing. This was the sunset the night after this storm.

I wish that those houses were mountain sillouettes, but even so, isn't it amazing!! And I didn't do any photoshop editing on these pictures.

Sew what?

Hooter hiders, or the more appropriate term, nursing covers. Whenever one of my friends is having a baby shower I always like to make them one of these covers. I always just imagine them holding their little ones under these. So sweet AND modest! I learned how to make these at an enrichment class one night a couple of years ago and have been making them ever since. I have so many friends who are pregnant right now. I still have two more to make besides these.

They always turn out so cute. Here is for Kim and Ashley who are having girls...

And then for Emily and Holly who are having boys... (I love the one on the left so much though, I may keep it for myself.. :D)

And then the matching burp clothes to go with them.

Plus I had done this project at the end of May, the car seat cover, with Lindsey, my student teacher who was also pregnant, but I hadn't put the ribbon ties on yet. So I officially finished it. I love it!

I had this sitting in the middle of the room when Mason got home. We both kept thinking there was a baby hiding inside. There will be soon enough!!

PS: Do you see the package on the right?? Guess what that is?? Only the CUTEST baby bedding set that was ever created!!! Oh yes, you should be excited to see it!

To blog for blogging's sake...

I'm really sad that I have NOTHING to blog about these days. Seriously, I have nothing. But I want to blog so bad.

Today was Mr. Lefler's first day of school but I don't think he'd like me to blog about all of that. Let's just say those inner city 8th grade kids stole his soul and he came home an empty shell. He's taking a nap right now. Boring for me who was looking forward for him to come home.

That's about it. I need to go water the grass/rose bushes. Do you think it has dropped below 100 yet? Probably not.

What should I blog about? I'm at a loss here!!

A masseur...

For those of you who don't know what a massuer is... it's a male masseuse.

At the end of the year one of my students gave me a spa finder gift certificate. So being we have had so much stress with moving and Mason's first day of school being this upcoming Monday (there are all kinds of sore muscles in this house!!) I scheduled for Mason and I to get a couples massage on Saturday. They asked me if it was okay if I had a man. I felt dumb as I sat there pondering if it, I mean, if I was okay with that or not. I mean, why not? It's just the same as some woman giving Mason a massage as for me to have a man give me a massage. Why does that sound so strange. I told the lady on the phone that I guess I didn't mind and she said, "Good, because he's our best but some people don't like that."

But I mean what's the big deal? Come on... I'm 8 months pregnant. How 'hot' can that be? Haha!!

Have any of you had a masseur before? Was it weird? Hmm....
