I never thought that I would see the day when my parents moved out of the house that they lived in for 45 years. Never. I truly never thought it would happen with the amount of stuff that they have and how difficult it is for them to handle decisions and change. But it did. It did happen. They made the decision last fall of 2020 after Kyle's family moved to Kuna Idaho leaving them the last part of our family in Arizona. They lived in Arizona from July 1, 1976 until March 4, 2021.
They debated between Logan, Salt Lake, and Kuna but finally decided upon Logan because of the landscape here. They also felt like it was a good middle ground. I helped them find a home. They debated between building and buying and finally found a cute house that had space in the basement for Eric to make his own. They moved into their house on March 6th.
Leaving Arizona was very emotional for all of us. They lived in our childhood home and kept it basically the same as when we moved out at 18. I was very sad to not be able to visit one last time. The last time I was down was in May of 2020 when I decided to break the rules of COVID and take the kids down there. I'm so glad I did because of the spiritual experience I had down there confirming to me that I would never be in that house again. I didn't understand it then, but looking back that moment of inspiration was a gift from God so that I could have closure with my childhood home.
The last day in my parents house we all got on a group Facetime together and had my parents walk through the house. We laughed, cried, shared memories and just spent our last time together over the phone in the house saying goodbye. It was heavy and sad. I'm such a sentimental person so this was difficult for me even though I was excited to have my parents close.
It still doesn't seem real. I feel like I could hop on a plane and fly to Arizona, drive to Casa Grande and walk into my home and have it be exactly as it was. Change is hard but also good. I'll miss it. I'll miss having a place to go on vacation. I'll miss the food. Oh the food. And I'll miss my childhood home.
