Mason has a yearly conference that he has to attend in Washington DC. We decided that it would be fun to take a child with us each time we went. We decided to start with Addie bug. We had so much fun!! We had a red eye flight leaving Salt Lake around 11:00 and arriving in DC around 5:30. We rode the trains and metro to get to our hotel. Adelyn was a champ. She didn't sleep much but never once did she complain. I adore her.
The main reason daddy wanted to bring Addie is because the zoo is within walking distance from the hotel. The first thing we did after a quick nap was go to the zoo. Adelyn was so excited to see the cheetahs and I was excited to see the pandas. The pandas were leaving the US the next week so we were so lucky to get to see them in real life.
Tom and Laura happened to be traveling through DC the same day we got there. So we met up with them for dinner. That was completely random and fun.
We went down to the monuments at night. We walked so many miles that first day and again, Adelyn never complained once. She was a trooper. We rented scooters for the ride back. Adelyn was a little nervous in the big city with all the people. She is definitely a country girl.
While Mason went to the conference we hit the zoo two days in a row. One night we ordered room service and spent plenty of time in the pool.
The last day after a morning at the zoo we went to the mall during the daytime hours. We went to a couple museums. Another highlight was getting an ice cream cone on the way home each day. We joked bc everytime Adelyn had an ice cream cone she would trip and fall.
Adelyn chose her souvenir to be a Fennec Fox and then she was thrilled to see one in the museum. She wasn't too interested in the memorials or sights. So that afternoon we just sat under a tree while she chased squirrels. Such an Adelyn activity. I love her.
One thing I learned while with Adelyn on this trip is that she isn't very use to making her own decisions. She's a 'go with the flow' kinda gal. I'd ask her what she wanted to do and she'd answer with 'whatever you want to do'. I had to force her to make decisions. I guess that's what you get with older opinionated siblings. The other kids stayed with Grandma and Grandpa. All in all it was a very successful and fun trip. Marae is on the docket for next year...
