June Randoms

June was filled with friends, family and no schedule.  That's what summer is all about.  This has been our first summer where time really has been thrown out the window.  We use to have little kids (Wyatt is still little but very adaptable) and we use to make sure they were all in bed by 7:30 but nowadays it seems that the kids are finally heading to bed around 9 and actually going to sleep at 10.  But that's okay... summer nights are magical and I love them.

We started the month with some fun at Grandma and Grandpa's.  Grandma was feeling bad that the kids could no longer go to her house and swim like they use to in the summers.  So she went out and bought a water inflatable for the kids to play at at her house instead.  The kids love it.

My friend Emily came to visit for 3 weeks at the beginning of June.  We made time to get together once a week to make up for not seeing each other in two years.  She's my best friend and our time together is just priceless to me.  She's the sister I've never had.  She came up and spent the night with her two younger girls one week.  The next week we met at the dinosaur museum in Ogden with all the kids and her husband, and the 3rd week we went on a girls shopping day and ice cream at Leatherby's with Quintin and finished the day by me taking their family pictures.  All the outings were perfect and I miss her already.

Mason and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary!

I signed Marae up for an art camp at Imagine This.  During the week she created different art pieces and on the last day of class the kids presented their art work in an art show format.  I love my budding artist.

One of the favorite chickens named "The Doblyn" hatched 9 adorable chicks just under our window.  The kids were thrilled to walk out there and see them one morning.  There were 3 that looked identical with the puffs on their heads that we named "The Doblyn Sisters" after the Schuyler Sister's and their song from Hamilton.  They were the family favorite and adored.  Marae liked to put them all 'on stage' on a log and have them perform.  Tragically we lost them all the evening of the 4th of July when the door to their shed was left open.  But they will all forever be in our memory and we hope that the Doblyn who was a darling mother will hatch some more - especially some Doblyn Sisters.

The kids had never been to a wedding before in their lives and suddenly they went to 3 in 2 weeks.  That was exciting for them especially since one of the weddings was our neighbor's daughter the Park's wedding.  It was GORGEOUS and I did the pictures for it. 

Baseball 2021 - The Flying Squirrels

Boonie was part of an awesome team this season.  He was on the Nibley Flying Squirrel's team.  His coaches were the Maughan brothers.  He had a lot of his buddies on his team.  They were almost undefeated the whole season losing only one game.  This put them in the tournament where they placed second place.  Boonie had a blast playing with his friends especially Peyton Thompson and Lincoln Maughan.

 

Oneida Camp and Float

 I had heard about a darling restaurant up Preston canyon called Deer Cliff Inn that had a live band, dancing, and little cabins to stay in that were cheap.  So I booked us a night and up we went.  The restaurant and ambience was so much fun.  We watched the performer, had a yummy dinner, danced together - all of us, and then stayed in two little rustic cabins.  They weren't updated and had one bed with a pullout couch, but it was SO fun.  The girls slept with Mason in his cabin and the boys and I shared a cabin.  It was right next to a little creek that the kids played in before the sun went down.

The next morning we had breakfast outside out cabins by the river.  Then we packed up and drove over to the Oneida river.  I had heard of people floating the river so of course I wanted to figure out where they were doing it and float!  Growing up we use to float the Salt River in Phoenix on tubes and it was a yearly blast so I was excited to do this with the kids.

The river trip was an adventure -as to be expected!  At one point as we were going over some rapids, Boonie and Marae were screaming, "We're gonna die!!!" out of excitement for the wild ride.  Well Adelyn took that literally and although all our tubes were tied together for safety she decided to jump ship and jumped in the water at the wildest part.  I had Wyatt on my lap and yelled, "Man overboard!"  Mason just off his tube roughly causing the tie to tip his tube deflating it.  The rest of us kept floating while Mason and Adelyn walked to the edge.  I was trying to figure out how to get us back together so I told Marae to hold Wyatt while I pushed our tied together tubes to the side.  I placed Wyatt on her lap and turned to located Mason and Adelyn.  I turned back around and see that Marae/Wyatt had come untied and were floating away quite a bit downstream from me.  Marae also realized this started screaming, "HELP!!!  HEEEEELP!!!" in an absolute panic bc she couldn't get out with Wyatt on her lap (please note, everyone had on life vests and were fine).  I told Boonie to swim down and push them to the edge.  He did, while losing his tube.  I pushed the group of tubes to the side.  Boonie successfully pushed Marae and Wyatt to the side but lost his tube.  I caught up to Boonie, Rae, and Wyatt and left the tubes with them and swam downstream to get Boonie's tube quite a ways knowing that we needed the other tube to float the rest of the way.  Mason joined up with the others on the side and we eventually caught up with each other.

We told Adelyn that when she is afraid of something to not cause that something to happen... if she is afraid of getting burned - don't jump in the fire.  If she is afraid of slipping off the cliff - don't jump off the edge.  If she is afraid of falling in the water - don't jump off the tube.

We all laughed and the kids have another memory from the excitement.  It was a great little weekend getaway.  I love little trips like this with my family.

Boone's Zion Trip with Nanna and Poppa

Nanna and Poppa told Boone that he could choose any National Park in the US that he wanted to go to and they would take him.  He chose a couple in CA and one in Arkansas and one in Texas.  Well Laura couldn't get any of them to work out so they decided to take Boonie down to Zion's for a trip all on his own.  He was super excited and a little nervous at the beginning because he has never gone anywhere without us before.  But he was excited for adventures and to be spoiled rotten.

The first day they drove down and went to Emerald Springs and checked into their little cabin.

The next day they went on a hike down the Narrows.  Laura said they hiked about 7 miles down the river.  They had a great time that morning.  After the morning hike they were going to play miniature golf and ride bikes and other things.  They were standing at the counter to buy tickets to these events when Boonie passed out.  Apparently he fell to his knees first and then his head hit the floor.  He had a huge goose egg and they decided to drive him through the canyon an hour to the hospital to check for a concussion. 

Boonie was pretty upset when we talked to him on the phone.  I was pretty nervous for him too bc Laura said he had a little seizure when he hit the ground.  He had passed out from dehydration.

They gave him a CT scan and lots of fluids.  The doctor said he was okay to go and didn't have signs of a concussion but they wanted him to act as if he had just in case.  He had crashed on his bike a couple days before so with two head injuries in one week they decided to bring him home so he could take it easy and rest.  Poor Boonie.  The next morning before they drove home they went to the counter and took a picture to reenact the drama.  He was sad to have to come home a day early and miss out on the fun.

On the drive home they stopped by Cove Fort and learned its history.  Boonie learned an important lesson - always drink water.
