Pumpkin Carving

These are our pumpkins. Mason is so proud of his! If you can't tell it's Charlie brown kicking Lucy's head. He did a really good job. It's his pride and joy right now. We have them sitting proudly on our porch.

Here are the Leybas'. I'm to the left, then Ryan, my mom, and Kyle at the end. This was last Sunday night while my mom was still here.

And here's the whole group from left to right: Mason, me, Ryan, Carly, Kyle, and then Stacy at the end. My mom was taking the picture. I don't know why this is being underlined.

Here we are making the mess in my kitchen. It was fun carving pumpkins all together again. We haven't done that since we were kids.

Witches Night Out

Saturday night was Witches Night Out at Gardner Village. It was so much fun!! Here I am on the left, my sister in law Stacey, GG (my G-ma in law), Laura (Mason's mom), and my mom. Stacey and I went as cute witches and they went as scary witches. This was right before we left.

Witches Night Out has become a tradition for my mom and I. This is our 3rd year going. It's so much fun because it's an event for women only. Basically all it is is women getting dressed up and having a ton of fun. They have cackling contests, a big dance where they play all the fun silly songs that nobody listens to anymore, they have candy shops, little boutiques, candy apples, fortune telling... it's such a fun time! The fortune telling was awesome... my first year my fortune totally came true and she was right on for this year too... crazy!

Wasn't this stuffed witch awesome?? Some of the costumes that the women dress up in are AMAZING! My hat is huge... I want to get a new one... one that doesn't look like a sombrero. I love this little ruffle/skirt thing I have on... any chance I have to wear it I take... so it works for witches night out.

Cornbelly's

Last Thursday my mom came up to visit from Arizona and we went to Cornbelly's. I love going to Cornbelly's! There's so much to do! Here we are in the corn maze...

As you can tell we like to eat corn in pictures. Check out my new hair cut. I am trying to grow it out.

Like I said... we like to eat corn.

These were giant tricycles. Kyle and his wife Stacey came with us. We raced but I'll tell you what... those bikes give you a work out!! Stacey and I are enjoying it... Kyle and Mason are... hmmm... not quite sure the emotions.

Thanks hun!

It was fun being with Kyle and Stacey. Classic picture guys!

We actually got this rocking chair to rock!

Dancing With The Stars

So I do love this show. I am a HUGE fan! I am sad that Tony Braxton got voted off last week... I wish it would have been Lance...I can't stand him. I really do hope that they don't vote off that darling old 82 year old lady who is absolutely having the time of her life dressing up and dancing each week. She is my favorite to watch! She is having such a good time. Anyway my Grandma sent me this picture today and it was too good to not post. I would LOVE to see either of them on the show. Ha!!

First Snow

I meant to post this two weeks ago! Two weeks ago I woke up Sunday morning and looked out the window and this is what I saw...

I got super excited and woke Mason up... it was like 7:00 am - the only day we ever get to sleep in. Needless to say he wasn't nearly as excited as I was. There have only been a few mornings in my life when I have woken up and seen that outside... I think it was more of a common occurance for Mason and his sleep was more precious than seeing the snow - but I opened the window for him to see anyway. He loves me.

Photographer...

My brother's wife's sister got married over Fall Break and she asked me to take pictures for her wedding. I was completely excited to do it. I love taking pictures and I have been wanting to take classes and become really good at it so I jumped at the chance when she asked for practice. I did her engagement, bridal, and then wedding day pictures. Here are just a few. You will have to let me know what you think!

As you can see Julie is a beautiful bride and easy to take beautiful pictures of!

I had so much fun doing this. Thank you Julie and Dave for letting me share this special day with you!

Body Worlds

Mason and I went to Body Worlds last night. It's an exhibit of human bodies and body parts that have been plastinated and preserved. I really wanted to go because I have always been curious about the human body and how it all works and is put together. But the only problem is that I get so queasy at the sight of blood and sometimes even thinking about how the body works - strange I know. Well I really wanted to go to this because I knew that I would never dissect a human body because I wouldn't be able to handle it - which is why I majored in elementary education. But this was absolutely amazing. They have donated bodies posed in different positions so that you can see how everything fits in the body. I would highly recommend it to anyone that isn't extremely queasy when it comes to those types of things. I was able to handle it so only those who are extreme wouldn't be able to handle it. The most amazing part to me was they had the different stages of a developing fetus. Being I've never had children I guess I never realized or really gave much thought to this. I couldn't believe how amazing and miraculous each stage was. Our bodies are so complex and every single tiny thing is so perfectly placed inside of us. Like I said before, I would definately recommend it!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my mom's birthday! I wanted to let everyone know how much I love her. My mother is the most giving person I have ever known. She will give up anything for the people she loves. She also gives the best hugs in the world. I'll tell you what, that is probably one of the things I miss most about not having my mom so close - her hugs. And she gives them so freely too! So mom, happy birthday!! I wish that I were there in Arizona to celebrate this day with you! I don't think that I have been there to celebrate your birthday for a long time. Oh... and I also think that you should come up here next weekend! Witches night out!

This is the only picture I have on my computer of my mom. We were in Scottland this summer and this is her and my dad driving around on one of the city buses. My mom LOVED Scottland. Here is a funny story about my mom... when we were in Ireland, also this summer, we went to a pub one of the nights. Well there was this old man who was crazy about my mom. He kept asking her to dance. At first she didn't want to because she hasn't danced in about 30 years, but once he kept on insisting and drug her out to the dance floor she was out there all night. Of course my father didn't mind... but it was hilarious! He wouldn't let her sit down. She finally had to tell him that she needed to rest. I don't think he needed to rest due to the amount of alcohol in his system - but that doesn't matter! I loved watching her dance! When we were leaving he told her she had the most beautiful eyes. He told my dad he was lucky. It was awesome. Here is a picture of both of us dancing in the Irish pub. As you can tell I was asked by a hottie as well. Haha!

What are the odds??

This is a totally random post but I just had to post it. The other day when I left the house apparently I had left the door open for a second... well within those couple seconds two bugs - a spider and a worm decided to try and enter our home. I didn't see them at the time but when I came home from work that night there was a worm AND a spider smashed from me shutting the door. I just thought it was so funny!! What are the odds that I would smash two bugs with one shutting of the door. I mean, the worm I could understand but the spider??? I'm glad I smashed him - it was either then or with a shoe later on.
A close-up of the damage done.

This picture is sick. Doesn't he look like a creepy little pervert - reaching out his leg like that?? Too bad he's smashed - sucker.

Halloween Spirit!

Like I said in the previous blog, I really love holidays. Here are my simple Halloween decorations. Last year I went to this really cute store after Halloween and got all these cute decorations for 1/2 price. I didn't use them last year and I had completely forgotten about until I opened the box. It was like Christmas!! I didn't know what I had wrapped up. This blog is kinda for my mom so she can see what my decorations look like being she can't come up here from Arizona this year.

You can't really see but there are two fingers in that basket on the right side of the table. They are long candles but I didn't have holders. They look cool.
By the way... it snowed this morning. Normally I would be SO happy about this. But I think I got all snowed out last year. I don't think I'm ready for snow yet. It was pretty and didn't stick but it's not going to trick me with these little flurries that I saw this morning. I know it will begin to get insane and freezing and snow the kids in school again like it did last year. Hopefully not. My feelings are mixed about snow now.

Mason's Birthday

I tried to make Mason's birthday as special for him as I could. He is so good because I get so excited about basically every holiday so he's really good to go along with all my major plans - for everthing - including his birthday. I felt bad because I had parent teacher conferences that night until 8 o'clock at school. As it was he didn't get home til WAY late, like 11 because he was looking for a car up in Salt Lake. We are almost settled on one, but it has been an on-going procedure. Anyway... so I knew that I wasn't going to get to spend anytime with him except for in the morning so I got up early and made him a yummy breakfast. I also made him a giant cookie. I figured that he hadn't had a birthday with a cake that was decorated just for him in a while, so I made him a football shaped giant cookie. It turned out really cute!

My class at school absolutely LOVES Mason. When they found out it was his birthday they all wanted to write him cards. Instead of giving him 28 cards I had them all write on this banner. I hung it up for him to see when he got home that night. Some of the drawings were so stinkin cute!
I loved this little Mason.

I liked how we were all included in this picture like a big happy family. Haha. I love my kids!

Reasons To Love Mason On His Birthday

This is Mason's first grade picture. How could you not love this little boy?? It’s Mason’s birthday today and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to share some bizarre and heartwarming things about him that I love:

He gives me a big hug and kiss and tells me he loves me before he leaves anywhere

He makes me yummy breakfasts

He eats my leftovers

He empties out his pockets on the kitchen table and leaves a clutter pile of his wallet, spare change, cell phone and receipts

He makes wonderful BLTs

He ALWAYS helps me do the dishes after cooking

He still opens the car door for me

He loses everything - which makes me feel important because I usually know where things are

He will give his life for any bug, small creature, or animal on any given day

He sings about 75% of the time we are together

He is extremely intelligent

He is very patient with me

He makes me feel like I have the capacity to do anything and be good at it

He is good at everything – even if it’s something he’s never done before

He has an extreme sense of smell

He’s got the rhythm of a soul singing black man from the 60s

His hair curls

He can’t stand anyone touching his feet

He’s my own personal tutor in the gospel and is so devoted to it

He is strong

He loves cookies

He compliments my cooking even when it’s down right disgusting

He is wonderful with children and I have no doubt that he will be a good father

He is honest

He has high expectations of me – which is a good thing because sometimes I tend to lose sight of the important things

He carries around those flossing plastic things all the time

He likes to play games

He talks to plants

He thinks if he were an animal he would be a bear – I agree.

He makes me laugh

Basically I could go on and on but I thought it would be fun to share just a few things that make Mason unique to me. He’s a wonderful example to me and I am so thankful that I have him in my life. Happy Birthday hun!

Obama vs. McCain

This is very interesting!
ABC has a test at the below address to see who's campaign statements, McCain's or Obama's, you agree with most. They don't tell you who made the statements, of course, but a statement made by each candidate on the same topic (economy, immigration, judiciary, etc.) will be side by side. You just pick which statement you agree with and, after selecting all 13, you'll find out which candidate's philosophy you support.
Try it at:

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/MatchoMatic/fullpage?id=5542139

Mine turned out as I thought it would. I knew I would be kinda split down the middle. I had 8 for Obama and 5 for McCain. I must say that I find Obama a bit more convincing and sincere than McCain. Hopefully no one stones me for that comment.

Cow Herding

I married into a wonderful family. Mason's parents and his extended family are amazing people. I am always impressed by them in so many ways. Mason's grandmother, Elizabeth lives up in Woodland which is a little town east of Park City. She owns all this property and occasionally we will go up there and do work to help her out with the gardens and building fences and stuff. Basically she lives in the place where the whole family will go when the economy crashes and there is no food and the world is falling to pieces. Everything she eats is home grown and home made - which brings me to the writings of this blog. We went up there this morning to help my Aunt Jan who lives with Elizabeth, herd their cattle into a cattle truck. They raise cattle all summer and then slaughter them in the fall so they have a year supply of beef in the freezer all winter long. This is nice for Mason and I because we often get all the leftovers so we are stalked for a while too. Anyway... I had always had the dream of being a country girl and I always love going up to her house because I get to see Mason being a country boy. He's such a hard worker. Well I went up there today partially to help out and partially for the entertainment. Plus I wanted to be able to add 'Herding Cows' onto my list of things that I have done in my life. So we did. It was actually easier than I thought it would be. I thought I was going to have to stand there with my arms out and corral them in - and perhaps be ran over - but the driver of the truck worked it so that all we had to do was block the sides of the fence next to the truck so they couldn't run past us. I got a kick out of the whole ordeal. I did feel bad for the poor little cows though who were completely clueless as to what was coming.

This is the truck they went into. It was just a small trailor. They only have about 12 cows.

This is my AMAZING Aunt Jan who is tougher than most men I know.

Here they go!!
